Jaroslava Bičovská was born on August 12, 1945 in Brandýs nad Labem.
Studies: SOŠV/VŠVH in Prague in the years 1960 – 1964. Although she graduated from high school with honors, she could not continue her studies at AVU for political reasons.
Her independent artistic beginnings are thus connected with proposals for graphic adaptations of books for the Vyšehrad publishing house. Soon, however, her interest turned to book illustrations, then to free graphic and drawing work, and during the 1960s also to the field of free painting. At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, Bičová presented herself as a unique author. Only the post-revolutionary years brought her the opportunity to present her free work in public, both in Czech and foreign galleries, where she finally received the recognition she deserved.
Represented in collections: National Gallery in Prague, CMU Prague, National Gallery Seoul (South Korea), National Gallery Damascus (Syria).
